  Diabetes And Its Causes

Life Style Modification (LSM) Is The Need Of   The Hour To Control Diabetes

Diabetes is a disease in which the body doesn't produce or properly use insulin. Our body needs energy for our daily life and insulin as a hormone help to convert sugar into energy. Diabetes is caused by two factors. The one is genetic factor and the other one is environmental factor.

If you are doubting to have diabetes, then do not postpone the medical check up. If diabetes is not treated early it will lead to more complications and affect the kidneys, eyes, nerves and promote arthrosclerosis ,there by increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes. Diabetes is the third leading cause of death in the United States after heart disease and cancer.

In diabetic condition the glucose (sugar) level in the blood increases than its required level. It is because of non-conversion of sugar into energy due to insufficient amount of insulin. Diabetes can be controlled and there is no cure. Treatments can control diabetes and delay its devastating effects. Consult your doctor and follow lifestyle changes, medications and routine blood tests as prescribed by your doctor.

The first step in controlling diabetes is Lifestyle Modification (LSM). The LSM includes changes in your dietary habits, reduction of weight and optimal physical activity. The second step of LSM is increasing the physical activity.

Medication

There are basically three types of oral medication.

1.Insulin secret gouges to increase insulin secretion from the pancreas.

2.Drugs with insulin sensitizers help to improve insulin action.

3.The third type of drugs help to delay the absorption of carbohydrate.

Resorting to insulin treatment is the final option. If the changes you have brought about in your lifestyle and the oral drugs do not work, then insulin treatment is the way. There are some misconceptions about insulin treatment. Do not constraint yourself because of these misconceptions and take proper medical advise from your doctor.

Types of diabetes

1. Type one is insulin dependent. In this type the beta cells of the pancreas no longer make insulin

2. Type two is not dependent on insulin. In this type the pancreas does not make enough insulin or the body does not use the insulin properly. The type two is the most common form of diabetes.

Symptoms and signs

  • feeling very thirsty even after consuming large quantity of water

  • urinating large quantity very often

  • feeling very hungry or always feeling tired

  • loosing weight even after taking enough food

  • giddiness

  • dry itchy skin

  • eyesight becoming blurry

If you are feeling to have any two or three of the above symptoms, then it is time to consult your doctor immediately. Do not give self explanation to the symptoms you are having because diabetes is the most common health disorder among the world population due to modern lifestyle. As said above untreated diabetes leads one  to more hazard health zone and the conditions become irreversible, often ends in fatal results.
